“Beth, remember what Mommy said, no getting your dress dirty!”

”kay, Mommy!” The answer came from the little girl’s bedroom, and Quinn shook her head with a smile. If her three year old daughter managed to keep clean for the next 30 minutes, it would be a miracle.

She was tired; her classes had run late today and Beth had thrown a tantrum, not wanting to leave her friends at the daycare. But Quinn was still nervous with excitement, pacing back and forth across her small apartment and checking her watch every 2 minutes. She knew precisely the route her guest would take, how long it would take, and every stop along the way - thanks to a meticulously penned itinerary that she kept up on the refrigerator next to Beth’s artwork. Still, the wait was always agonizing, every weekend.

She was rewarded ten minutes later at the quiet knock on the door, and she threw it open, to be met with a cold gust of January air and the warmth of someone folding themselves into her arms without a word. Quinn smiled and kissed the top of Rachel’s head.

“Missed you,” she murmured.

Rachel smiled and tilted up to drop a kiss on Quinn’s lips. “You too. You ready?”

Quinn nodded. “Let’s go get the bunny.”

In Beth’s room, the little girl was sat on her bed, “reading” a book to Stweisand. Quinn had quirked an eyebrow while Rachel laughed, when the teddy bear was named.

“What are you reading?” Rachel asked, pulling Beth into her arms when Quinn’s daughter beamed and reached for her.

“Faiwytale.”

“About what?”

“You and Mommy and me.” Beth nodded firmly. “Ever after.”

Rachel met Quinn’s eyes and smiled softly; she stood up with Beth in the crook of one arm and reached for Quinn’s hand. “Right, then. Time to take my ladies on our date.”
